Trying to demonstrate the ION drum rocker paired with the alesys dm5 brain. Not my drum skills. Not even close technically, but fun to play….Audio is a little over driven on the bass…My first attempt at video and separate audio mixing….
I used audacity for recording the audio from the mixer panel..and tried to sync it with the audio in my dvd software..

well I got my dm5 …
well I got my dm5 for around 225, extra cymbal was 40 or so, the kickpad and pedal another 65, and the drum rocker IONs for 300. There is an upgrade kit for the drum rocker that has all of this for 200 except it uses a different brain. not including the drums themself.

With the DM5, and …
With the DM5, and most drum brains they have a headphone jack. Some brains (not the dm5) have an audio input to play mp3s so you can play along. I take the audio from the DM5 and feed it into an audio mixer and mix it with my mp3 player and listen usually via the headphone jack on the audio mixer.

Hmm, Short answer …
Hmm, Short answer is probably no. or maybe. Guess thats pretty subjective. The heads are pretty much the same (except) the snare which often has a mesh head. I think they are good e-drums. Certainly not as good as the more expensive Roland. Eventually I will get a dual zone snare which will pretty much make them comparable to “real” e-drums.

i just ordered my …
i just ordered my IONs, with a different drum brain are they just as good as a normal electronic kit ???
July 30th, 2009 at 1:50 am
Well it doesnt …
Well it doesnt really get much better for rock band…As E-drums go they are good. Heads are not as good as mesh heads but satisfactory for playing thats for sure. And the response (bounce) is much better than the standard RB set. I got these because I could play RB and drum on them. Of course the DM5 was extra, but pretty much any brain will work with them. I.E TD3.

just wondering how good this is because I’m wanting to get a electric drum kit, and i need a new RB drum set so is this worth it?

Absolutely. The …
Absolutely. The trigger levels are adjustable to an individuals playing style. I suspect the ION cymbals probably aren’t as “good” as roland but they sure are cheaper.

I havent really had …
I havent really had any problems with that. I had some crosstalk. Have you tried setting the sensitivity and velocity threshold? If not you might want to play with that. Also make sure they are relatively tight. I did have a problem with the high hat the wire came off inside and I had to resolder it.

Thats a good question. I just thru it up there. Since it isnt dual zone it doesnt really matter where I hit it. I am getting the surge cymbal hi hat someday, I might try moving it. I dont think it will help my playing much tho.. LOL, Thanks for viewing.

Hi,
well the vid pretty much show how big it is. You can move the arms and stuff to change the shape somewhat and position of the pads. You can loosen it up and kinda fold it up for moving but its not really playable that way.

My hi-hat was off …
My hi-hat was off of ebay a alesis dm5 pro kit cymbal. You dont have to have 3 cymbals but you really want a hi hat , a crash and a ride. For some music you might want 2 crashes… but you can just move the cables and plug the ride into the crash2 position…try that with “real drums” lol

I want to put the ALesis Dm5 onto my Ion Drum Kit, but i dont know what extra things i will need.

The ion controller …
The ion controller for the xbox 360 came with the Drum set. The ionaudio website states that they are not going to sell it seperatly. They initially said they would. I would like to buy a ps3 controller someday so I can use the same set for both games. Dont know what to tell you. You could contact them and ask…
