What is the best FREE audio mixing/editing software?

Posted by admin on July 25th, 2010 and filed under Audio Mixing Software | 6 Comments »

I downloaded two amazing programs for exactly that purpose. One is VirtualDJ which is only a free trial that last for weeks but its a great program. Another one is Fl Studio and it has different features but is for a similar purpose and is just overall a very helpful program.

plays sound but no music!(no audio device?)?

Posted by admin on July 25th, 2010 and filed under Audio Production Software | 1 Comment »

hi, i have a dell that plays windows sounds and when i use FL studio(music production software) it plays but when i try to play music files like .wav or .mp3 i cant. Also my windows audio mixer icon on the taskbar isn’t showing yet windows says my intel integrated audio is working properly. can anyone tell me whats going on? or how to fix this?is is the message my media player gives me…

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

but my sound is fine other than music files…??
thanks, i went to hardware device and audio and there was no "?" so i went to control panel>audio devices and it says theres no playback device most of my stuff is un-highlighted..aain though only music files dont play.

write click over my coputer > properties> hardware >device manager.. look for sounds, videos and game controller…if u see any ? mark then u have to install sound driver again..

anyways if u dont see "?" then its ok u hv sound drivers …

just open control panel and click sounds and audios devices click audio tab select which one sound driver u have defalut one is of windows…select intel as u r saying ur sound driver is of intel…

u can chat with me on yahoo

    Audio Production Work in Progress

Posted by admin on July 21st, 2010 and filed under Audio Production Software | 3 Comments »

Many apologies to dole out here. This marks my virginal upload to youtube. I have much to learn about video encoding, especially for uploading here. Before today I had never done either. You will surely notice the HD 720 option doesn’t appear HD at all; in fact it looks terrible compared to the original. However, I would recommend viewing it, since I don’t consider the others even tolerable.

It took about three hours to devise the main loop which forms the core of this work. Another three hours the next day and I had this attempt at a buildup. I really don’t want to try to guess how long it took to translate to this upload.

CamStudio would distort Live’s audio. So I tried VirtualDub. Probably due to my ignorance, I couldn’t get visual and audio to sync (I used the original .mp3 as the audio –I couldn’t figure out how to grab both “live”). I decided to use CamStudio’s video-only capture, import into Live, and blend Live’s audio with the video. Apparently, Live only accepts Apple-based video formats… and only certain ones at that, it seems.

I grabbed even more programs. Something called Super, which didn’t work out (again, probably due to ignorance on my part), and then Handbrake. I finally managed to get Handbrake to convert CamStudio’s .avi to .mp4 with a reasonable amount of quality vs. filesize.

I didn’t know I would have to learn an entirely new realm of software just to upload videos. After further tinkering with Live’s encoding settings, I managed to yield a passable video file with audio synced well enough to suit the point. And then after waiting for the upload to process I see that it came out poor quality compared to what resides on my HDD. Oh well; how else will I learn?

I originally intended to speak over this video, partially evidenced by the cursor hovering and following the tracks. I chose to quit while ahead (?), although at least I know I could do it, given enough time and patience.

I hope someone finds interest, entertainment, or even amusement in this. I probably could have composed another couple of minutes or more of the song while I wrestled with software trying to get this video borne. I welcome any input you might want to supply. I’ll take criticism too, provided you keep it constructive so that I can improve myself. I consider myself a novice in many things, including audio production (and video encoding even more so).

A huge hat tip to Tom Cosm:

    http://www.youtube.com/user/cosmcosm

He not only makes amazing music, but has an awesome philosophy and attitude about it. His instructional videos have surprised, educated and inspired me, and without that this humble incipient offering might still reside somewhere in the void. Incidentally, if anyone knows an easy and reliable way to record both audio and video while using Live, I would love to hear suggestions, and would feel much obliged if I could streamline this process.

Thank you for your time, and again, my apologies for the obvious neophyte’s mark on both the music and the video itself. Cheers, and happy viewing!

Looking for some good freeware, any advice/idea’s ?

Posted by admin on July 16th, 2010 and filed under Audio Production Software | 2 Comments »

Been looking around on download.com for a couple things… wondering which ones are the best?

First- I need a good music organizer with good tagging/labeling and easy to use.
    Also need a good dvd/cd ripper/converter

and looking for some good audio production recording/mixing software.

All preferably free and from a safe site like download.com or cnet. thanks. I have vista by the way.

I have an iPod Touch. I ever got many DVDs and i could not backup them on my iPod either. So, first I convert them to Apple iPod Touch MPEG (*.mp4) with a program called SnowFox DVD Ripper. It could Rip dvds and add the converted videos to iTunes automatically, and what i need do is just to drag the files to ur iPod.
Btw, this converter could extract music form dvds and it could be compatible with all series and my sister’s iPhone and iPad 2.
and in the output list, it could work for iPad, iPod, iPhone, BlackBerry, Zune, HTC Hero, Nexus One, T-Mobile Pulse, LG, Motorola, Samsung, and other Android Phone, etc.
    good luck! :D

How to connect a mixing console for live sound reinforcement use (the basics)

Posted by admin on July 10th, 2010 and filed under Audio Mixing Software | 2 Comments »

This excerpt from the sound engineer training program “The Sound Check Trainer” explains the basics of connecting a microphone snake (with 4 sends) to a mixing console for typical live sound use with a small to medium sound system. At the stage end of the snake, the sends will connect to the inputs of power amplifiers or other devices. Microphones will also be connected to the snake’s stage box in order to carry their signals back to the mixing board.
